DULWICH WOMEN 1s 121-1 (20.3) beat ASHTEAD 120 all out (30.1) by 9 wickets
The next game for the 1s was a home fixture against Ashtead in a crucial bottom of the table clash. Lyndsay won the toss and chose to bowl first starting off with herself and Ami. Ami continued her strong early season form dismissing one of the openers before Lyndsay got in the act getting an LBW decision on a ball which was hitting plumb in front. Ashtead consolidated for the next few overs before getting going despite good ground fielding from all of the team especially Joy and Georgia with their pickups and throws back to the stumps. We needed to break the partnership so Lyndsay turned back to Ami who successfully broke it dismissing the two batters who were in, bowled and smartly caught by Amanda, which brought us right back into the game at 99-4.
Then, it became a trial by spin as Ramya, Maria & Sim bowled in tandem. Despite being slightly different, they all bowled tightly targeting the stumps including Ramya taking 2 in 2 but unfortunately the hat trick ball went array. There also was a wicket by one of Sim’s “moonballs” as wickets were taken at regular intervals as we picked up the remaining 6 wickets for just 21 runs. The fielding was sharp as there were catches for Joy, Hana & Ami in these final wickets. Overall, a clinical bowling performance.
Due to the excellent bowling performance of bowling Ashtead out for 120, we were confident that one solid partnership would be enough to win. Our openers, Ami & Maria, set about this task accordingly through taking advantage of a shorter off side boundary. Despite the early loss of Ami for 5, this tactic paid dividends as so many runs came through the offside for Maria and Sim through crisp drives and cuts. Runs were flowing at a good rate and despite a lapse in umpiring taking away a 4 from Sim, she managed to bring about another 50 in as many games courtesy of another 4 through the offside. Both Maria and Sim managed to see the job through in an unbeaten 110 partnership for the 2nd wicket (the highest in the club this season) for a 9 wicket win!
This was a convincing performance from start to finish and the first win of the season for the 1s! Let’s build upon this in a couple of weeks away at Woodmansterne.
