DULWICH WOMEN 2s 138 all out (30) beat OLD RUTLISHIANS 1s 136 all out (23.3) by 2 runs
It was the 2nd XI last game of the season , sun was shining and the grass was disgustingly green, could be perhaps but the perfect day to secure a DCC win.
The plan was simple and batting first we sent in our skipper and Ellie to see off the new ball however the execution less simple, we may have come out with a pair of gorgeous blinged out ducks to add to the collect and a ‘circle of rage’ created by Ellie as an slight comms issue caused a run out on the second ball. This was a questionable start for Dulwich but nothing the pros couldn’t handle.
Enter Maria who had evidently had runs for breakfast, four after four after four, she crushed to retirement at 50 better than a middled aged dad who’d just discover golf!
To steady the ship Emma and Sim put in a shift and calmed everyone nerves to which meant the scoreboard began racking up once again
A few brisk wickets later, Jay strolled in to finish things off with her first four of the season, leaving Old Ruts a target of 139.
After tea, Dulwich were fuel by some bizarre chicken drumstick pittas and raring to go.
Ami and Ellie opened the bowling and some excellent fielding from Maeve restricted Old Ruts to just singles and before you knew it Emma took the stumps for an excellent run out! Dulwich were all over the game!
Maria then delivered absolute jaffa of a ball to remove their captain and the wickets kept coming. A sensational movie like a diving catch from Kat showed Old Ruts we were no team to be messed with and the catches kept coming.
The scoreboard was slow but steadily ticking over and by the water break the run rate needed slowing and the wickets needed taking. Pressure? What pressure?
The final overs turned properly tense, the field tightened and nothing was getting through the fielding defence.
The back and forth of Maria–Cerys bowling partnership quietly strangled the Old Ruts run rate but Still, Dulwich needed wickets. We, asked and Maria kept answering, three more fell, leaving the score at 135 heading into the final over, with Old Ruts needing just 4 to win.
Cerys to bowl … no run … 1 run … squeaky bum time ...
A WICKET!
The crowd goes wild, all composure and decency were thrown out the window and DCC secure another W for the team!
Finally a big shout out to Olga for her last game before she leaves for the Big Apple, you will be missed!
