DULWICH WOMEN 1s 121-3 (18.4) beat SPENCER 2s 120-9 (35) by 7 wickets

The local rivalry was once again upon us as we played away against Spencer 2s for the next game in our coach’s Shujah derby game having been the coach of Spencer. They won the toss and elected to bat first on another hot afternoon for cricket. Our opening bowlers, Ami & Hana kept it tight as we controlled the run rate before Joy managed to get the breakthrough courtesy of a smart catch by Alice making it 32-1.

We maintained this control of the run rate before the introduction of Jeansy and skipper Lyndsay really applied the pressure on Spencer ultimately culminating with Lyndsay taking a wicket off her very first ball.

This was the start of 14 disciplined overs from the pair (Lyndsay 4-14 & Jeansy 1-20) stifling the run rate, picking up wickets at regular intervals and well backed up in the field including an expertly thrown direct hit by Shania when the opposition cheekily tried to run a 3. Spencer fell to 77-7 but thanks to some late order hitting got up to 120-9 with the next two wickets going to Ami (1-31) & Ellie Hill (1-9).

We set about the chase of 121 positively with Jeansy carrying on for where she left off from her 165* in the previous game. Despite the early loss of Maria for 6 courtesy of a smart caught and bowled, runs were flowing from Jeans’ bat hitting a plethora of 4s every over. We lost Sim next due to an under edge onto the stumps for 5 but Jeansy & Shania continued the positive momentum in the chase. Boundaries kept being hit in this partnership before Jeansy brought up another 50 plus score this season thanks to a crisp 4 on the offside. The partnership was worth 85 before Jeansy holed out to deep mid wicket courtesy of a great catch on the boundary but then Shania (36 not out) and Alice took us over the finish line as we won by 7 wickets!!

This made it 3 wins out of 4 as we seem to be picking up momentum at the right time. Well played to everyone involved as it was a real clinical team performance!!
