DULWICH WOMEN 2s 217-3 (30) beat BEDDINGTON 82-9 (21.3) by 135 runs
After a long winter’s rest, it was finally time to dust off the cobwebs and see what the new season had in store.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Captain Kat and Maria took to the field to get the season underway. With the London Marathon providing the backdrop, it was very much a case of runs, runs, runs. The pair piled them on, building an excellent opening partnership of 105. A big shout-out to Kat, who retired on a well-made 60.
The momentum didn’t stop there. Boundaries continued to flow as Sim and Georgia took to the crease, pushing the total to an imposing 217 and leaving Beddington with a serious chase on their hands.
Opening the bowling, Ami charged in and struck early, sending the Beddington opener back to the benched. Some nifty fielding created further pressure, with a number of well-taken run-outs helping to chip away at the batting order.
After the drinks break came Miranda’s debut — and what a debut it was. Three wickets later, she had well and truly announced herself, leaving the rest of the team questioning if they’d make the cut for next weeks selection
It was a superb all-round bowling performance, but Kat wasn’t done yet, picking up two wickets to halt any momentum from the Beddington innings. Finally, Ellie delivered the last blow to seal a convincing opening win.
Player of the Match: Kat — for a brilliant batting and two wickets
