Sun 24th May Dulwich Women 1s vs Wimbledon

DULWICH WOMEN 1s 156-6 (35) lost WIMBLEDON 170 all out (33.2) by 14 runs

The first XI enjoyed an away trip to Wimbledon in very hot conditions. Unfortunately, we ended up being reduced to 10 morning of the match and we lost the toss, so were fielding first. The opening bowlers, Lyndsay & Ami bowled tightly despite the conditions and Ami was ultimately rewarded with a couple of early wickets - one courtesy of a smart catch by Emma making it 30-2. Wimbledon fought back through the overseas, Josie Penfold, who hit boundaries at a steady pace however we continued to probe away at the other end through the miserly spin of Ramya who took 3-17 in her 7 over spell with more good catching from Ellie & Lyndsay as the score hit 100-5.

We rotated our bowlers in these hot conditions and along with the spell of Ramya, Daisy & Amanda continued with the pressure bowling tightly, targeting the stumps with Daisy being on a hat trick as she took 2 wickets in 2 balls. The hat trick ball came and went and despite the best efforts of the overseas, Ami returned to dismiss her for 87 as she top edged a delivery straight up in the air which was caught by our calm keeper, Shania. This brought the innings to a close at 170 all out, supported by strong fielding all around, with Georgia putting in more steps than most!

171 was going to be a tough chase, but Shania and Simran batted superbly in a partnership filled with crisp drives and powerful pulls. They eventually put on 72 before Shania fell but another partnership from Sim & skipper Lyndsay still kept us in it taking us passed 100 for the loss of just 2 wickets. Sim got to 50 and the runs were still flowing from the pair of them before their overseas came back and delivered the ball of the day to dismiss Sim for 66 with still 30 runs to go to win.

With the opening bowlers returning, the lower middle order of Georgia, Emma, Ramya and Daisy tried hard to rotate the strike and keep the scoreboard ticking but unfortunately on this occasion we couldn’t get across the line ultimately falling 14 runs short.

Overall, this was a great team performance which everyone contributed in, we just couldn’t get over the line but was a way to bounce back from the opening defeat against Spencer.

Stats:

Bowling - Ramya Pabba (3-17) / Daisy Bailey (3-29) / Ami Kocher (3-32)

Batting - Simran Dehal 66
