Prue Gibson

We have just heard that Prue Gibson died peacefully on Wednesday 24th January in Lewisham Hospital. Prue had recently celebrated achieving her 100th birthday in November as the photograph below with Sir Steve Bullock, the Mayor of Lewisham shows.  Prue had been married to Tom Gibson for 57 years with much of their early days of marriage involved watching head teacher Tom leading Dulwich 3rd XI and 2nd XI sides home and away. Tom was a good club cricketer but his real forte was developing team spirit and coaching youngsters. Prue naturally brought the children on weekend afternoons where young Jimmy was soon smitten with the cricket bug.

Prue was nobody’s fool and her assessment of the game and cricketers made conversations interesting. When Tom retired, both came regularly to home weekend and midweek matches with Tiger, their Yorkshire terrier. After Tom’s death in 2000, Prue continued her interest in the club although her visits became less frequent as illness and old age limited her mobility. Anyone who met Prue could not fail to see her evident sense of humour, her inner practicality and a real commitment to her core values. Prue will be much missed and those knowing her will always recall the twinkle in her eye when she talked about Tom and her pride in her families many achieve.

The funeral arrangements will be available from Jim Gibson by email to
