DULWICH 206 (44.5) lost to SUTTON 300-6 (50) by 94 runs
The AJ Sports Surrey Cricket Championship reverted to 50 overs a side this week, but this didn’t help Dulwich as they lost their Premier Division match at home to Sutton by 94 runs.
Dulwich elected to field, and tight bowling kept their opponents down to 135-3 off the first 34 overs. Joe Payne conceded just 15 runs off six overs in his first spell; Harrison Perry came on as first change, took the first wicket in his first over, and bowled an unusually lengthy spell of seven overs for 26 runs; Kaif Ramzan conceded 35 runs off eight overs in his first spell and took the next two wickets; and Ahmed Khan went for just 25 off seven in his first spell. But Jayden Broodryk, who had scored an unbeaten 150 in the first match between the sides, now began to take control. 50 runs came off the next six overs, and then 115 off the last ten. Broodryk advanced to 113 off 83 balls before being caught off Jacob Emler in the penultimate over. None of the bowlers escaped the punishment, though Ramzan picked up another wicket to finish with 3-53 off his ten overs. The innings closed on 300-6 after their 50 overs.
Dulwich started their innings poorly, losing the first two wickets inside three overs. Harrison Perry and skipper Ollie Steele then added 48 in 12.3 overs for the third wicket before Perry was run out going for an optimistic second run, having made 28 off 43 balls. This brought in 17 year old Tommy Wright, playing in only his second first team match in the Championship. He proceeded to play a mature and sensible innings while wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. Steele fell two overs later for 25, having also faced 43 balls, to reduce Dulwich to 77-4 after 18 overs.
Wright was joined by Rob Gibson, playing his first match of the season, who scored 15 out of 42 for the fifth wicket. Will Jenkins, with 32 off 27 balls, then dominated a stand of 41 in 5.3 overs for the sixth. Ramzan fell ten runs later, and Rory Sale helped Wright put on 27 for the eighth wicket, to take the score to 197. Wright finally fell for 65, off 76 balls, and Sale was out to the next ball  A couple of lusty blows by Emler lifted the score past the 200 mark before Payne’s dismissal left Dulwich all out for 206. All of the wickets (apart from the run out) had fallen to catches.
Dulwich take just four points from this game and remain at the foot of the table, 30 points behind Sunbury in eighth place, with four matches remaining. Next week they have another tough home match against Wimbledon, who are currently second. Dulwich will be looking to avenge their defeat in the first match between the teams.
