Sat 16th May 1st XI v Old Hamptonians

OLD HAMPTONIANS 176 (45.3) lost to DULWICH 250 (49.2) by 74 runs

Dulwich travelled to Old Hamptonians for their second match of the season in Division 1 of the M.Zaidi & Co Surrey Cricket Championship and came away with victory by 74 runs.

Dulwich were put in to bat, and their innings was built around a measured century by Kiwi overseas player Will O’ Donnell. He came in to face the third ball of the innings after Lucas Parry fell first ball, and stayed until the final over. Harrison Perry and skipper Ollie Steele also went quickly to leave Dulwich precariously placed on 25-3 in the seventh over. The recovery began with a fourth wicket stand of 92 in 16 overs between O’Donnell and Jacob Rhodes, which ended with the latter’s dismissal for 31, off 46 balls.

O’Donnell had passed his half-century by this point, and he went on to enjoy stands of 19 for the fifth wicket with James Schofield (14 off 14), 33 for the sixth with Abdullah Khawaja (18 off 40), 34 for the seventh with Harvey Booth (20 off 20) and 41 for the eighth with Rory Sale (21 off 23). Tommy Clout went quickly, leaving O’Donnell on strike for the last over with his score on 96. He hit the first ball for a straight six to bring up his century, and was caught on the boundary next ball trying to repeat the shot. His 102 had come off 130 balls. Dulwich were dismissed for 250 off 49.2 overs, with opening bowler Raza Mughal taking 5-26.

Booth and Dan Empson launched the Dulwich attack, and they each took an early wicket, with Empson striking in his first over and Booth in his third. Accurate bowling by Booth, Empson, Clout and O’Donnell kept the scoring rate in check. A wicket for Clout, a second wicket for Booth, and wickets for Rhodes and Lucas Parry, who both bowled brief but effective spells, reduced Hamptonians to 112-6 after 32 overs. Toby Godfray led a counter-attack in a stand of 50 in 7.3 overs for the seventh wicket, but Parry returned to have him leg before for 83, off 109 balls. This was the first of four wickets for Parry in consecutive overs which saw Hamptonians dismissed for 176 off 45.3 overs, with their last four wickets going down for just 14 runs. Parry finished with 5-30 off 6.3 overs.

Next week Dulwich have a home fixture against Beddington, who have also won one and lost one of their first two matches.
