DULWICH 77 (38.5) lost to EPSOM 78-4 (17) by 6 wickets
Another batting collapse saw Dulwich go down by six wickets in their Ryman Surrey Championship Division 2 match at home to Epsom.
Dulwich were put in to bat on a damp wicket, and got off to a poor start as both openers were dismissed by Will Moore for a single apiece. Stuart Ferguson and Tom Deasy consolidated, and were just starting to accelerate when Ferguson fell for 17 with the score on 37. Deasy was joined by Frankie Brown, and together they took the score to 52 when Deasy was run out, going for an ambitious second run, for 26. Nick Hudson fell in the same over, leaving Brown and skipper Tom Savill to take the score to 66 in the 31st over. Spinners Gordon Stevens and Asim Zeb then cleaned up the last five wickets, which fell for just 11 runs in 8.1 overs. Brown, with 15, was the only other batsman to make double figures.
Dulwich struck back early in the Epsom innings. Matt Quaife dismissed acting skipper Ben Hudson, who had scored all nine runs on the board at that stage, in his second over. Naeem Iqbal followed up by dismissing Hudson’s brother Luke in the next over, and struck again in his fifth over, taking two wickets in three balls, to reduce Epsom to 38 for four after 8.3 overs. Iqbal finished with 3-21 off seven overs and Alex Gledhill bowled with his usual accuracy, but the other bowlers were unable to apply the same pressure, and Moore and Zeb guided their side to a six wicket victory after just 17 overs.
Next week Dulwich travel to Horsley & Send, who have also yet to win a game, as the Championship reverts to a time-based format with a minimum of 100 overs.
