5th XI v Bank of England
Result: Dulwich won by 82 runs
Dulwich 236-5 innings closed
Bank of England 154-9 innings closed
Dulwich gained further useful match practice in readiness for the forthcoming league campaign with this comfortable victory over the Bank's 4th XI on a damp afternoon at the London South Bank University Ground. Conditions were ideal at the start, but it soon started to drizzle and although the rain continued all afternoon it was never heavy enough to force the players to seek refuge in the pavilion.
After winning the toss, Dulwich elected to bat first in this 40-overs a side match. Openers Aidan Reeves and Simon Jones got the innings off to a brisk start with a stand of 43, young Reeves hitting some sparkling boundaries before holing out to mid on for 29. The in-form Pratish Dayalji then joined Jones and together the pair took the score to 97 before Jones was caught and bowled for 36. Dayalji was far from fluent early on, but gradually rediscovered his touch and regularly punished any loose bowling. David Straker proved an effective partner for Dayalji and the third wicket pair kept the score rattling along and past the 200 mark. Their stand was worth 111, with Dayalji making 84 (his third successive fifty) and Straker falling one short of his own half-century. Alex Ingarfield struck a confident boundary before getting out, but Leon Willis (13*) and Ben D'Anvers (9*) kept the momentum going and Dulwich reached a commanding total of 236 in their allotted 40 overs.
The Bank needed a good start if they were to threaten Dulwich's total, but the writing was on the wall as wickets fell at regular intervals. Left-armer Luke Howard (3-46 off 16 overs) troubled all the Bank batsmen with his testing line, and first change Leon Willis (2-24) grabbed a couple of good wickets early on. Ben D'Anvers chipped in with a wicket, before Richard Hughes (3-33) returned with a penetrative second spell. Colt Alex Ingarfield also bowled a tidy spell, although he failed to take a wicket. For the Bank, only skipper and opening bat Matt Adey with an impressive 80 supplied strong resistance and after 40 overs they had only reached 154 for 9. leaving the home side winners by 82 runs. Despite having to cope with an increasingly wet ball, Dulwich's superior fielding was a key factor in their success with some good catches being taken, including two by Simon Jones.
