Match Reports
Dulwich 3rd XI v Chertsey 3rd XI (away) 2 August 2003
Result:
Dulwich won by 89 runs
Dulwich 178 for 9 in 55 overs
Chertsey 89 in 26 overs (R.Karat 7 for 41)
Dulwich won again to maintain their pressure on Old Wimbledonians
at the top of the table, but had to rely on a devastating bowling
performance after the batsmen had struggled.
Put in to bat, Dulwich were largely becalmed. Peter Rice top-scored
with 44, but he took a long time in reaching that total, especially
as several partners got in and then got out. When Rice was finally
dismissed, the score was 114 for 5 and Dulwich had only 11 overs
to post a decent target. In the run chase, some lusty blows were
hit but the second highest score was a disappointing 14, as Dulwich
closed on 178 for 9 having used their full allocation of 55 overs.
In reply, Chertsey got off to a positive start and were quickly
31 for 0, but skipper Harmer kept faith in his opening attack
of Rohan Karat and Jason Speer, and they fully rewarded him.
Karat was the first to strike, and from then on the wickets tumbled
with all the regularity of van Nistelrooy faced with an open
goal. Chertsey collapsed to 89 all out, by which time Speer had
picked up three wickets and Karat had taken seven for 41 - the
best bowling figures of the season for the side. He bowled very
accurately and gave the batsmen little to work with. He has now
taken 25 wickets this season at 12.9.
Next week Dulwich host Purley. Dulwich are now five points behind
Old Wimbledonians and 17 ahead of third-placed Woking & Horsell.
