Match Reports

Saturday 17th May 2003
Dulwich 3rd XI vs. Old Mid-Whitgiftians

Result: Match Drawn

Dulwich 189-8 (T.Cable 57) in 52.5 overs
Old Mid-Whitgiftians 60-7 in 38 overs

Having been put in to bat, Dulwich got off to a superb start on a damp track, thanks to a blistering half-century from Tony Cable, who reached his 50 in just 24 balls with his fourth six. One six landed on the far side of Gallery Road, narrowly missing two passing cars. With the weather always likely to play a part in the match, it was just what Dulwich needed. Tony and Peter Rice put on 75 for the first wicket, after which Sam Taylor tried to maintain the momentum with a breezy 35. Wickets tumbled in the middle order in search of quick runs, but Dulwich were able to declare after 52.5 overs on a challenging 189 for 8.

The hope of a second successive league victory was dealt a severe blow when, after just three overs, the rain came down and caused ten overs to be lost. However, David Woods (2 for 15) and Ian Marshall (3 for 29) put the Old Mid-Whitgiftians top order under heavy pressure, reducing them to 24 for 5 at one stage. As Old Mid-Whits fought to save the match, wickets became harder to find and they escaped to 60 for 7 at close of play.

Next week Dulwich travel to Esher and will look to return to winning ways after their strong start to the season.
