Dulwich 3rd XI vs. Woking & Horsell
Result: Dulwich Win
Woking
& Horsell 125 (K.Patel 4-24)
Dulwich 129-2 (P.Rice 51*)
Stewart
Harmer won the toss and put Woking in to bat on a lively and quite
pacey track. Kanak Patel and Ian Marshall put the opposition under
early pressure, conceding fewer than two runs per over, with Kanak
picking up four wickets. Rohan Karat, making his debut for the side
and bowling with real pace, took two more quick wickets to reduce
Woking to 46 for 6.
However,
Woking seemed almost to have reversed their batting order, as the
later batsmen began to turn things round. After an indifferent start,
Glen Bowley settled into a great rhythm and bowled well to take
two wickets, and Woking were finally dismissed for 125.
After
his duck last week, Tony Cable began his innings keen to make amends,
and batted sensibly for his 22, including one enormous six before
being very well caught in the gully. Sam Taylor could not follow
up on his fine innings of the week before, so it was left to Peter
Rice and John Acland-Hood to add an undefeated 83 for the third
wicket to see Dulwich home to a comfortable win, with the only threat
being from the weather, although both survived confident appeals
when the scores were level. Peter made 51 (7 fours) and John finished
on 43 (8 fours), with both batsmen playing some lovely shots.
Next
week will be a key fixture at home against Old Mid-Whitgiftians,
relegated from the Premiership last season with a West Ham-esque
number of points, as they are likely to be serious contenders in
the league race.
