Saturday Third X1 Match Reports

Reigate Priory at home on 19th May 2007 in the Surrey Championship

Reigate Priory 121 all out

Dulwich 122 for 4 wickets A Saeed 52 not out)

Result: Dulwich won by six wickets

FA Cup final day saw both ‘special ones’ put out strong sides against tough oppostition. Jeff ‘Jose’ Mascarenhas first decision was to pick what looked to be the spongier of 2 squares available in  possibly the cheekiest attempt to coordinate a low scoring game leading to a quick finish bearing in mind a 4pm kick off at Wembley…………

Having won the toss, Jose elected to bowl, and Dulwich proceeded to bowl and field tightly in the first 10 overs. The pressure finally told and Reigate succumbed by losing both openers in quick succession. Opening bowlers Brett ‘Loveshack’ Casson and Prasanna ‘The Chef’ Callaghan probed well in the right areas and picked up the breakthrough wickets. ‘Loveshack’, having become extremely adept at exploring the channels, continued to bowl (over) maiden after maiden.

The noise in the field was exceptional and the team spirit reached fever pitch as Kanak ‘Legend’ Patel ripped through the Reigate middle order to finish with yet another five-fer. Smart catches were taken by Luke ‘Frankie’ Howard and Inderneel ‘Raiders (of the lost Ark)’ Bhalla. The team were further inspired by the appearance of  previous heroes Adam ‘Die Hard’ Willis and Steven ‘The Judge’ Heath.

After a little wag from the tail, Dulwich wrapped up the Reigate innings for 121 with Paul ‘Fletch’ Christian picking up the last two wickets.

Having seen the Reigate batsmen struggle on a decidedly Dulwich wicket, the Dogs new what was required to ensure victory. Unfortunately Simon ‘Chasing’ Leather, (whilst always looking the part), edged one to the keeper early doors.  Amer ‘Marathon Man’ Saeed dug his heels in and tried to steal runs wherever possible, ably assisted by some hard hitting from Obafemi ‘Shok’ Shokoya. Dulwich  lost a further 3 wickets before Sam ‘Second XI’ Taylor hit the winning runs, leaving the Marathon Man unbeaten on 52.
