Saturday Third X1 Match Reports

Dulwich Cricket Club - Saturday 3rd XI Match Report

Saturday 12th August

Weybridge 3rd XI 254-8 declared (Arun Mahey 3-47, K.Patel 3-58)

Dulwich 3rd XI 204-6 ( A.Edwards 47, Arun Mahey 36*, O. Shokoya 30, J.Mascarenhas 30)
Venue Reed's School...more on that later

Result: Losing draw. The point collection exercise continues

Well, Dulwich were told to go the Spenthorne Social Club, which on inspection was an arid environment with lightening fast outfield and wonderful views of a human waste processing plant. The notice board said that we were to play there and the staff behind the bar even confirmed it. However, as 1pm approached with no sign of oppo we thought that we could be in the wrong place. That we were. Eventually after much map viewing we set-off to the new ground. Skip brought up the rear driving as fast as my gran used to. We found the school in and amongst a variety of nice houses. There were some monumentally large houses in that part of the world, Cobham - Chelska footballer's homes.

Anyway back to the cricket. Jeff lost the toss on the road again, as the left hand tossing was not employed by the giant of an oppo skipper. The game was agreed to be shortened to a 90 over game given the Oppo's directions to the other ground.

Willis and Betts opened the bowling on the mid-Autumn sorry mid-August afternoon. Useful lines from both but strong driving and dabbing through 3rd man area got both batsman running, though early drop catches were also to blame, even if they were protecting themselves rather taking a catch. The introduction of the legend which is KP brought rewards with Kanak collecting a nice little 3 for. Blackers bowled well, though found control hard with gusting winds. Arun, again bowled well and got results from persistence and good catching. Anyway after fetching leather for 46 overs Weybridge had amassed 254 runs, which on a small pitch was in the reams of possibilities.

Tea was plentiful and accompanied with homemade cakes...which was nice.

Sykes and Bloke opened the batting, Sykes fell early and Bloke was joined by Ted. They put on a few, Ted then was LBW again this season but wasn't playing the trademark flick....bring it back all in forgiven...Bloke "schmulered" his way to 47 then played a daft shot and fell. Umar and Black-dog then got on with it. Shok and Arun batted well again. Arun ending with 36 no.

In the end we were around 50 short which was far closer than we thought at one point.

Anyway, point collection continues and next week will see a new skipper at the helm with Umar taking holidays, so hopefully 13 points will be earned/forcefully taken by Dulwich
