Saturday Third X1 Match Reports

Dulwich Cricket Club - Saturday 3rd XI Match Report

Saturday 19th August

Esher 191 -7 declared ( 35 overs)

Dulwich 195-8
Venue - Trevor Bailey Sports ground

Result - Dulwich won by two wickets

Well, it was cracking weather for ducks. Rain greeted our arrival at the ground, also there to meet us were locked gates. Not the best way to make your debut as captain....

Esher captain was very keen to play the game and the captain of Dulwich was very "negative" about the whole game, well at least up to the start at least.

A puddle on the popping crease caused the game to be moved to another track, and Esher were very keen to play, Dulwich players went back to the club to chat about what could have been while the rest of us were reading rule books and watching it rain. And Esher were keen to play.

The game for all the fuss that preceded it eventually had a toss to start, the debut captain tossed the coin as high into the air as possible hoping to land the coin on it's edge on the wet ground(an achievement worth seeing) toss won by Dulwich, Esher inserted.

Dallas and Legend opened for Dulwich, Dallas picking up a tidy 3 for in his 12 overs; after 10 overs Esher were struggling on 26 for 1. Spirited hitting by Segal (no.3) including to places that should have been impossible to hit were hit. Dulwich stood firm and battled on.

When no.3 departed the score was 83 and he had 61 of them, Dulwich then accumulated wickets slowly not allowing any partnerships to develop, Patel picked up 2 well deserved wickets and Tiger nipped in for one care of a great catch by Smith, which was only superseded by Shok's celebration.

Arun got a late bowl which resulted in a wicket though not having a solid base to bowl from due to the wet ground was a problem.

A good and plentiful tea was had by all...

Smithy and Bloke opened up for us, Smith fell early and the kiwi fella went to support Bloke. Kiwi and Miami were soon back in the shed, leaving Miami to worry about the result.
Ted then returned to sparkling form, buoyed by the fact that he had his bat back and that his dad was there to watch he and Bloke took the Esher bowling to pieces, Ted fell for 46 of which 40 must have been scored in boundaries. Welcome back Ted. However the main hero of the day was Bloke, who batted with real spirit and did exactly what was asked of him for a very fine 76. Shok's cameo for 27 was only marred by running out Bloke causing Miami to almost bite off his finger, especially as Shok was bowled soon after.
However whenever there is a crisis rely on experience, Dulwich had at it's disposal two MCC members who knew exactly what to do. Admittedly for 4 overs I thought that they had gone mad and settled for the draw...they hadn't they got to the last over and KP delivered 2 sumptuous shots which both yielded 4 runs..........scores level.........last ball..............every thing on the boundary crossed..........field closed in to stop the single........KP drives over the top for 4...Dulwich win...Shok sprints to the heroes in the middle...Dulwich win...13 points for the dogs.....
The Dulwich Miami 3's road show moves onto Sunbury who are gunning for success at the top of the table.....lets get another 13 points.
