Dulwich 2nd XI vs. Honor Oak

Result: Dulwich Winning Draw

Dulwich 196 all out and Honor Oak 166-9

Having led the 2nd XI 2nd division all season, Dulwich's failure to win away at Honor Oak cost them their top spot to unbeaten Cheam who now lead by 7 points. It was an inability to take the tenth wicket that prevented victory and in that they had eight overs to do so on a pitch that favoured ball ahead of bat, this draw came as a bitter disappointment. However, credit must be given for getting into that position in the first place. Put into bat, Dulwich lost early wickets and a side short of quite a few regulars could easily have been dismissed very cheaply, but the middle order dug in. Anil Mahey and James Hemmings both delivered half-centuries of quality, giving the tail a platform for extravagance towards the end of the innings, with Mohammed Hadi in particular despatching lusty blows to the boundary. 196 was a good score from 48.5 overs.

Getting 52 back to dismiss Honor Oak, Dulwich anticipated victory and after some early resistance, wickets started to flow regularly, with Richard Beeching and Mo Hadi proving the most dangerous with three wickets each. A decisive, cutting edge was missing though and ultimately a lack of penetration and accuracy cost Dulwich 9 points as Honor Oak clung on at the death. A win away at 13th placed Egham next week would seem vital in maintaining championship winning credentials.
