Dulwich 1st XI vs. Weybridge

Surrey Championship: Dulwich 252 all out beat Weybridge (113 all out) by 139 runs

Dulwich continued their good form with a third consecutive victory enjoying an emphatic 139 run win away to defending champions Weybridge.

Put into bat in overcast conditions, Dulwich lost their first two wickets for only 12 runs in the first six overs with Darryl Brown and Steve Hale both falling to Shaun Fleet. Jack Lusk joined Anil Mahey and together they steadied the Dulwich innings against accurate bowling from Fleet and Mike Ferris. The pair took the score to 100-2 at lunch with 37 overs gone. Lusk was 52 at the interval- his fourth fifty of the season whilst Mahey was a solid 34 not out.

After the break Dulwich accelerated accentuated by Lusk taking 22 off one over from Matt Church. Eventually Fleet returned to dismiss Lusk for 82 off 124 balls with skipper Richard Farrow falling in the next over. Mark Kelly hit 20 off 24 balls to keep up the momentum with Mahey, before Kelly departed at 185. Stefan Boss fell cheaply but Mahey and Burton added 50 in just over seven overs before Mahey was finally dismissed for 85. Local boy Anil Mahey had made his highest score for the first team in difficult conditions and his innings proved crucial.

Burton continued to play his shots and was last out for 38 off only 41 balls taking his side to 252 in 64 overs. Fleet picked up the last wicket to return figures of 5-45 off 14 overs.

When Weybridge batted, Dulwich got off to an excellent start as Kelly dismissed Charlie Hodgson in the first over. Dave Burton followed this up by removing Woodcock and Tim Hodgson both bowled out in his first over to have third placed Weybridge reeling on 6-3. Former Worcestershire batsman Matt Church joined Gavin Franklin and together they took the score to 35 before Kervin Marc had Church well caught by a diving Boss at cover point. Church had made a quick fire 18 off 10 balls. Marc followed up by dismissing Franklin for 19 to make Weybridge 40-5.

Weybridge skipper, Andy Muggleton and Greg Pearson took the score to 80-5 off 19 overs at the tea break. The end was not far away as the remaining Weybridge wickets tumbled after tea. Mark Kelly claimed another two with Burton and Hough grabbing one each with Burton also achieving a run out with a direct hit at the bowler's end!

Kelly finished with 3-46 off 9.2 overs and Burton took 3-36. In recent weeks, Sussex triallist Dave Burton has been bowling very impressively with thirteen wickets in the last three matches while Kervin Marc returned from injury to record 2-18 in four overs. The experienced off spinner Graeme Hough was in a typically mean mood conceding just twelve runs and taking one wicket in nine overs.

The Weybridge innings was concluded in just 31.2 overs allowing Dulwich to record a convincing 139 run winning margin.
