Dulwich 1st XI vs. Normandy
Surrey Championship: Normandy 152 all
out lost to Dulwich (153-4) by six wickets
Dulwich celebrated their second successive victory in their Premier
League clash at home to Normandy achieving a convincing win by
six wickets.
Dulwich put Normandy into bat on a difficult pitch and achieved
an early breakthrough when Dave Burton struck in his second over.
Jim Clutterbuck and Jamie Glasson survived hostile spells by Burton
and Mark Kelly to put on 61 for the second wicket at four an over.
Clutterbuck’s dismissal to Adam McDonagh for 22 brought in
Andrew Hemmingway who helped Glasson add a further 40. At 109 -2
just ten minutes before lunch Normandy seemed set for a good score.
However Burton returned to dismiss Hemmingway also for 22 and
Graeme Hough struck in the last over before lunch to leave Normandy
114-4 at the interval. The next wicket came in the same over from
Hough two balls after the break and Burton dismissed Glasson for
59 in the following over. Normandy had been reduced to 116-6 in
a dramatic spell of cricket.
Hough and Burton continued to bowl unchanged and finished off
the Normandy tail dismissing the fifth placed team for 152 after
46 overs. The last eight wickets falling for only 43 runs. Burton
finished with 4-62 off fifteen overs and off spinner Hough had
the excellent figures of 13-5-29-5 with four bowled and one lbw.
Dulwich started their reply in assertive style as Darryl Brown
took the bowling apart well supported by fellow opener Anil Mahey.
64 runs came off the first seven overs off four different bowlers
with Brown getting 48 of those runs. Fine bowling spells by Chris
Cornell and Junior Simpson slowed the scoring rate with Simpson
dismissing Brown for 54 off only 47 balls. Cornell picked up the
wickets of Mahey for 29 and Steve Hale for 3 to reduce Dulwich
to 99-3 after an opening stand of 86.
Acting skipper Jack Lusk and Stuart Ferguson prevented any further
breakthrough and Lusk gradually took control with an innings of
33 in 42 balls before he was dismissed at 138. Ferguson and Mark
Kelly came together and steered their side to a comfortable six
wicket victory.
