Dulwich 1st XI vs. Weybridge
Dulwich (181 all out) lost to Weybridge (186 -6) by four
wickets.
Newly promoted Dulwich put up a strong performance against reigning
champions Weybridge. In a tight match the home team were eventually
forced to concede defeat by four wickets. Put into bat, Dulwich
started positively reaching 35 after only nine overs. The dismissal
of both openers brought a brake to the scoring, as tight bowling
by Shaun Fleet and Gavin Franklin saw only nine runs scored off
eight overs.
The Dulwich batsmen were just beginning to accelerate when Anil
Mahey was run out for 16 and Jack Lusk (26) followed in the next
over. Two more wickets soon fell and Dulwich went into lunch at
a precarious 93-6 off thirty eight overs. Mark Kelly and Stuart
Ferguson instigated a recovery with a stand of 54 for the 7th wicket
before Kelly was dismissed for 29. Ferguson carried on with the
lower order before being dismissed for 54 with the score on 181
in the 59th over. The key bowler for Weybridge was Australian left
armer Luke Woodcock who took five of the last six wickets to finish
with 5-46.
Weybridge in reply found scoring difficult against testing bowling
by the Dulwich pace trio of Mark Kelly, Kervin Marc and Dave Burton.
They took a wicket apiece to reduce Weybridge to 42 for three wickets.
Debutant left arm spinner Anthony Dalton picked up a fourth wicket
just before tea leaving Weybridge in trouble at 73-4.
Adam McDonagh continued to apply the pressure to the Weybridge
batsmen picking up the wicket of Joe Porter with the score on 94.
McDonagh's superb spell giving him one wicket for fifteen runs
off eight overs. Matt Church was joined by Asad Khan in a stand
of 59 for the sixth wicket before Kervin Marc returned to dismiss
Khan for 23 with the score on 157. Weybridge skipper Andy Muggleton
joined Church and together they pushed Weybridge to a four wicket
win. Church's last boundary brought up his fifty leaving him 54
not out and Muggleton 19.
Despite a second defeat of the season, Dulwich can take confidence
from their performance against one of the best teams in the league,
especially as Weybridge were made to battle for 58 overs to overhaul
Dulwich's total. On Saturday Dulwich are home to Banstead in
the Castle Surrey Championship Premier Division.
