Dulwich 1st XI vs. Bromley
Dulwich 154-7 declared beat Bromley 94 all out.
Newly promoted to the Surrey Championship Premier League, Dulwich
completed their pre-season friendlies matches with an impressive
60 run victory over Kent Premier league champions, Bromley on Saturday.
Both sides had agreed upon a forty over game because of the uncertain
weather and Dulwich were put into bat on a wet wicket. Dulwich
started badly losing two wickets in the third over off successive
balls - Steve Hale and Anil Mahey both being dismissed without
scoring. Mark Kelly and Dave Burton took the score to 37 in the
twelfth over before Kelly was caught one handed in the slips by
the former England player Alan Wells for 24 off the left arm spinner
Rob Kerley.
Kerley and Atif Khan put a brake on the Dulwich scoring, with
Khan taking two wickets at a cost of 11 runs in six overs while
Kerley's one wicket for seven runs was achieved in eight overs.
Dulwich had limped to 90 -7 off 32 overs before they were rescued
by acting skipper Jack Lusk and new recruit Matt Skinner. The partnership
added 64 in the last eight overs with Lusk making 50 not out off
59 balls and Skinner 28 not out off 23 balls.
Batting second Bromley found batting equally difficult against
a good all round bowling performance by the home side. New boy
Kervin Marc recruited from Radlett, took the important wicket of
Alan Wells while Kelly picked up the other opener. Dulwich's young
Sussex pace bowler Dave Burton took 3-15 off eight overs and veteran
Graeme Hough weighed in with two wickets for 11 runs off seven
overs. Schoolboy Anil Mahey was unable to follow up his seven wicket
performance from the previous week and took a single wicket whilst
Skinner ended a good all round day with 2 wickets for 12 runs as
Dulwich cruised to a sixty run win.
Skipper Richard Farrow who returns for the opening Premier league
game against Normandy and is very happy with his team's preparations.
He has been able to retain most of the squad who have been together
for three successive championship wins. Mike George the overseas
player has returned to Australia and Mark Kenlock has stepped down
top play in the lower leagues. Richard said that Mark Kenlock's
contribution over four year's has been terrific and he is pleased
that Mark will continue to work as a coach with our colts. He is
replaced by Kervin Marc who promises to be every bit as threatening
with the ball and hopefully successful with the bat!
Richard continued "We have signed a couple of new young players
and some of our own youngsters are now stepping up to the mark.
We hope that with continuity from last year and the impact of our
new players, we will do well in Surrey's top league. We will need
good availability and some luck as each week we will be playing
top sides "
