Dulwich 1st XI vs. Farncombe
Farncombe 134 all out and Dulwich 135-0
Surrey Championship Division One leaders Dulwich extended their
lead at the top of the table to 16 points with a crushing ten wicket
defeat of bottom side Farncombe. Their convincing win leaves Dulwich
tantalisingly close to a third successive promotion!
Put into bat Farncombe lost their first wicket to Mark Kelly
in the fifth over. West Indian opener Darren Brown was then joined
by Matt Pike who survived several edges through the slips to put
on 50 for the second wicket. Attacking fields from the confident
Dulwich side enabled the Farncombe scoring rate to progress at
4 an over.
Off spinner Tanuj Sud was brought on and he soon applied
the brake by conceding only four runs in his first eight overs,
taking two wickets including Brown for 33. Kelly picked up Pike
for 22 whereupon Tanuj’s spin twin Graeme Hough joined the
attack to take 4-20 off ten overs.
Sud retired from the attack
with 2-30 in fourteen overs as the opening bowlers were recalled
to brea k a stubborn last wicket stand. Mark Kenlock picked up
the last wicket to dismiss Farncombe for 134 in the fiftieth
over. On a very hot day the Dulwich ground fielding held up well
as Jack Lusk pouched three catches at first slip whilst the skipper
Richard Farrow also took two catches.
Farrow and Steve Hale started the Dulwich reply steadily with
only 20 runs coming from the first ten overs but the scoring soon
accelerated. Farncombe tried seven bowlers in an attempt to brea
k the Dulwich opening partnership but to no avail as the pair reached
135 in just thirty overs.
The skipper led the way with 73 not out – his
fifth half century of the season with an aggregate of 592 runs
at an average of 49. His opening partner Steve Hale made 49 not
out and raised his average to 46 since his promotion to the first
eleven.
Next week table topping Dulwich visit Cheam in the First Division
of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle Lager with just
three games of the league season left.
