Dulwich 1st XI vs. Old Emanuel
Old Emanuel 119 all out and Dulwich 120 for 2 wickets
Dulwich comprehensively outplayed Old Emanuel to secure their
ninth win of the season and seized the leadership of the First
Division of the Surrey Championship with just four games to go.
The Dulwich victory was based upon an excellent bowling display
backed by fine out cricket. Inevitably Farrow and Lusk wrapped
up the game for Dulwich just after five o’clock as Dulwich
look odds on to confirm their third consecutive promotion.
Winning the toss skipper Richard Farrow inserted Old Emanuel
and his faith in his bowlers was justified as the opening bowlers
Mark Kenlock and Stuart Ferguson tied down the batsmen. Kenlock
was soon into his stride bowling Carmichael with the score on 4
and one run later Ferguson trapped Jarratt. Old Emanuel were in
trouble with Hardwick and Mayer struggling for every run before
Mark Kelly arrived into the attack to dismiss Mayer for 30. The
pair had added 47 but the door was open and Kenlock grabbed two
more wickets to reduce OE to 75 for 5 wickets. After an impressive
opening spell on a hot day, Kenlock the former Surrey player had
taken three for forty six off fourteen overs.
Hardwick and Jermyn had taken the score to 116 before Hardwick
was caught by Ray Tudor off veteran off spinner Graeme Hough for
a doughty 44. It was clearly a crucial wicket as the resistance
seemed to end as Tanuj Sud twirled his off spinners to take the
final four wickets as Old Emanuel tumbled to 119 all out. Sud,
the young City lawyer proved to be almost unplayable as the tail
failed to score off his last twenty four balls. Sud ended the innings
as he took three Old Emanuel wickets with his last four balls.
The Dulwich response was led by Steve Hale and Richard Farrow
and although runs came quickly, Hale was soon in the pavilion followed
by Australian born Mike George. Both had made six and Dulwich were
34 for 2. The skipper was joined by his vice captain, Jack Lusk
and together they steadied the ship. After a period of consolidation
the Dulwich pair displayed a range of shots all over the wicket
as the OE skipper tried six bowlers in an effort to break the partnership.
Dulwich wasted no further time as Lusk raced to 46 not out and
Farrow stroked the winning run to end on 44 not out.
An eight wicket win was the emphatic distance between the teams
and next week Dulwich look forward to entertaining Farncombe in
the First Division of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle
Lager.
