Dulwich 1st XI vs. Bank of England
Bank of England 194 lost to Dulwich 195 -6 wickets.
Dulwich completed a successful run chase to record a four wicket
victory over the Bank of England and maintain their second place
in Division One of the Surrey Championship. Saturday’s victory
avenged their mid season defeat by the Bank and kept up the season’s
momentum.
The Bank elected to bat first but the openers were unable to
force the pace against Mark Kelly (who picked up the first wicket
at 21) and Mark Kenlock and the 50 did not come up until the 20
th over. The visitor’s innings was dominated by opener Neil
Barnes who survived a dropped catch on 15 and went on to carry
his bat for 102 not out. He clearly enjoys playing against Dulwich
as he made 78 in the previous match. Wickets fell regularly at
the other end with the off spinners doing the damage as Tanuj Sud
picked up 4 for 62 off 18 overs and Graeme Hough took 3-30 off
ten overs.
Both bowlers took two wickets in an over. The Bank lost
their ninth wicket at 169 but Ben Lawrence helped Barnes to his
hundred in a last wicket partnership of 25 before falling to
Adam McDonagh. The Bank had benefited from several missed chances
although Mark Kenlock had belied that trend taking three catches
in the outfield.
The Dulwich reply started disastrously as they lost two wickets
for twelve runs in the first overs. Skipper, Richard Farrow and
his New Zealander team mate Jack Lusk fought back to score 23 and
20 respectively. As Ray Tudor departed, Dulwich were precariously
placed at 95-5 in the thirty fifth over. Mark Kelly continued his
good run of form of recent weeks and was joined by City lawyer
Stuart Ferguson who helped him add 38 for the sixth wicket. Ferguson ’s
dismissal saw Dulwich on 133 for six needing 62 to win off 11.4
overs.
Kelly was joined by McDonagh and together they took the
Bank bowling apart as they added 42 runs off 4 overs. The pair
reached the target without further loss in just eight overs with
Adam McDonagh scoring 31 off 26 balls. Kelly’s magnificent
innings of eighty eight not out was his second fifty in three matches
and pushed Dulwich one step nearer promotion as their rivals stumbled.
Dulwich’s win puts them just nine points behind Farnham
and extends their lead over third placed Walton to thirty seven
points. Next Saturday Dulwich visit Old Emanuel in the First Division
of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle Lager.
