Dulwich 1st XI vs. Farnham
Farnham 195 all out beat Dulwich 148 all out.
Dulwich lost their last six wickets for only twenty one runs
in six overs to sink to a forty seven run defeat in their top of
the table clash at home to Farnham. As a result newly promoted
Dulwich are now second in the Surrey Championship Division One
and trail Farnham by just thirteen points.
Put into bat Farnham started disastrously losing both openers
leg before, in the first four overs with a wicket apiece to Mark
Kelly and Mark Kenlock. Nick Whitworth led a revival putting on
49 in sixteen overs for the third wicket with Gary Clapham, who
made 22. Whitworth continued to thrive adding 46 for the fourth
wicket with Farnham skipper, Tom Hicks who added 27 off 34 balls.
Having taken 104 balls to make his fifty, Whitworth accelerated
to reach his hundred in only 42 balls more. Fine spells by off
spinner Tanuj Sud who took 3-17 off six overs and Mark Kenlock
with 3-31 in his second spell disposed of the Farnham lower order.
Whitworth was last out for 107 off 153 balls with the Farnham score
on 195. Kenlock’s four wickets in the game gives him 21 wickets
for the season at sixteen runs apiece.
In reply Dulwich found batting difficult as the effects of the
downpour of rain made the bounce uneven. Farnham’s veteran
paceman Peter Dickinson bowled an exacting opening spell of 2-27
off thirteen overs. The early Dulwich batsmen soon out and the
club was rescued by a fourth wicket stand between Mike George and
Mark Kelly. They took Dulwich from 37 for three by adding 53 in
twenty overs.
Dulwich keeper George was eventually dismissed for
a gritty 37 and Stuart Ferguson joined Kelly and together they
took to 127 as the game seemed finely balanced. However Kelly
was dismissed for 55 and then the Dulwich middle order and tail
capitulated to left arm spinner Danny Kirkland who took five wickets
for three runs off 15 balls including three wickets in one over.
Kirkland who had dismissed George earlier finished with 6-34. The
Farnham skipper Tom Hicks ended the Dulwich innings and they were
all out for 148.
Next Saturday second placed Dulwich visit third placed Sunbury
in the First Division of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle
Lager.
