Dulwich 1st XI vs. Bank Of England
Dulwich 194 all out lost to Bank of England (198 for 2 wickets).
Surrey Division One leaders lost for the first time this season
at the Roehampton headquarters of the Bank of England. Put into
bat Dulwich struggled against the new ball attack of Nick Pont
and Richard Murray. Debutant, Pont grabbed two early wickets claiming
the scalp of Dulwich skipper Richard Farrow for just five runs.
It was Farrow’s first dismissal in single figures this season
and he was soon joined in the pavilion by fellow left hander Phil
Chandler to leave Dulwich on 41 for two wickets.
Jack Lusk promoted to number three, relished the responsibility
and with Ray Tudor took the score to 124 for three off thirty three
overs. Tudor was out for 26 and eventually Lusk was bowled for
75 with Dulwich on 144 after 40 overs.
The middle order would have expected to accelerate but at 156
lost three quick wickets in five overs for just nine runs leaving
Dulwich on 165 for seven wickets. Pont, who had returned for a
second spell was to take four wickets in a match winning spell
that eventually earnt him six wickets for thirty one runs. The
Dulwich tail did not really wag and the innings closed at 194 as
Kenlock was caught at deep cover. Dulwich had only taken fifty
overs so at the halfway point, the game promised to be an open
contest.
The Dulwich opening pair of Kenlock and Kelly needed an early
break through against the Bank openers, Richard Murray and Neil
Barnes but despite beating the bat could not quite find the edges
and the batsmen began to play more confidently.
Weathering the storm, the openers began to gradually accelerate
on the excellent batting track, as spinner Tanuj Sud bowled economically
at first and then was withdrawn as Murray attacked. Adam McDonagh
and Graeme Hough were also tried before the skipper turned to Dave
Burton. Each option did not provide the first wicket until Barnes
was run out for 78 with the Bank on 156. The returning pacemen
could not make any inroads until Kelly had Lawrence caught at fine
leg by Kenlock with the scores level. Munro knocked off the winning
runs as Richard Murray carried his bat with 87 runs.
With ten games completed Dulwich are still at the head of the
table and next Saturday entertain Farnham who have the same number
of points. A game eagerly awaited by both sides in the First Division
of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle Lager.
