Dulwich 1st XI vs. Walton On Thames
Dulwich 242-8 wickets declared beat Walton on Thames
50 all out.
Dulwich romped to a massive 192 run victory over fourth placed
Walton on Thames to retain their leadership of the Surrey Championship
Division One. The victory was inspired by superb batting by skipper
Richard Farrow and Ray Tudor combined with a devastating bowling
performance by Mark Kelly well supported by Mark Kenlock.
The early part of the Dulwich innings was held together by their
captain Farrow who took part in stands of 21 for the first wicket
with Phil Chandler who made 19, thirty nine for the next wicket
with Mike George (18) and forty for the third wicket with Jack
Lusk (21). Following the dismissal of Lusk and Kelly in successive
overs, Dulwich were precariously placed on 108 -4 after 39 overs.
Farrow moved inexorably to his 50, his third in successive innings.
The arrival of Ray Tudor saw the game dramatically transformed
as together they put on 113 for the fifth wicket in only 15 overs.
Farrow was eventually dismissed for 90 taking his aggregate for
the season to 440 at an average of 55. Tudor went on to score a
magnificent 79 made off only 54 balls to see Dulwich to a declaration
on 242-8 in the 58th over. Tudor hit 4 fours and 6 sixes with
several lost balls!
Walton started steadily, putting on 16 before Mark Kenlock took
the first wicket in the eight over. His pace bowling partner, Mark
Kelly then took two wickets in the next over to leave Walton reeling
at 22-3. Skipper Giles Henderson with 21 provided the only resistance
as Dulwich ripped through the rest of the Walton batting to dismiss
them for only 50 in the 25th over. Kelly took 7-34 off twelve
overs to take his figures for the season to 23 wickets at an average
of 14. At the other end the ex-Surrey paceman, Mark Kenlock bowled
a miserly spell of 3-16 off twelve overs taking his season’s
haul to seventeen at an average of 12. No other bowlers were required
in the dismantling of the Walton response.
At the half way stage of the season, Dulwich have won seven of
their nine games and hold a thirty seven point lead over the third
placed team. On another excellent day for the Dulwich club the
second eleven recorded a thrilling three wicket win at Banstead
to take the lead in their division.
Next Saturday, Dulwich visit the Bank of England in the First
Division of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle Lager.
