Dulwich 1st XI vs. Old Emanuel

Result: Dulwich Win

Dulwich with 256-3 wickets declared beat Old Emanuel 181 all out.

Surrey Championship Division One leaders, Dulwich maintained their lead with a convincing 75 run victory over Old Emanuel, thanks to an outstanding 202 run opening partnership by Richard Farrow and Phil Chandler and a five wicket haul for Tanuj Sud.

Put into bat Farrow and Chandler started slowly with only twenty runs coming from the first ten overs before Chandler led an acceleration with 59 runs off the next ten. Runs continued to flow as the two left handers put the 100 up in the 23 rd over, the 150 in the 31 st and then the 200 in the 38 th over. New Zealand born Phil Chandler reached 50 off 60 balls and his century off 98. Chandler was first out for 116 recording his second century of the season, Phil’s golden start has seen him score 379 runs averaging 63.

With Chandler out at 202, Farrow accelerated before being dismissed for 87 with 350 runs scored in the season to date. A quick 23 off 19 balls by Ray Tudor took Dulwich to a declaration of 256 for three wickets in just 45 overs.

Old Emmanuel were left with 65 overs to make the Dulwich score and although they scored at the required rate of four an over, they lost wickets at regular intervals. Mark Kelly started the rot taking three wickets in his opening spell whilst his pace partner, Mark Kenlock was unlucky as several edges just failed to go to hand.

After the hostile opening spell skipper Farrow turned to the spinners with some success. Graeme Hough and Tanuj Sud both took wickets in their first over to reduce the OE’s to 119-5. The sixth wicket partnership took the total to 151 where upon four wickets fell in twenty balls. The last wicket pair added twenty runs before the Old Emmanuel innings closed at 181. Off spinner Tanuj Sud taking the last wicket to give him 5 wickets for 26 runs and to give Dulwich an early victory by 75 runs.

Next Saturday, Dulwich entertain Walton on Thames at Burbage Road in the First Division of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle Lager.
