Dulwich 1st XI vs. Old Emanuel
Result: Dulwich Win
Dulwich with 256-3 wickets declared beat Old Emanuel 181 all
out.
Surrey Championship Division One leaders, Dulwich maintained
their lead with a convincing 75 run victory over Old Emanuel, thanks
to an outstanding 202 run opening partnership by Richard Farrow
and Phil Chandler and a five wicket haul for Tanuj Sud.
Put into bat Farrow and Chandler started slowly with only twenty
runs coming from the first ten overs before Chandler led an acceleration
with 59 runs off the next ten. Runs continued to flow as the two
left handers put the 100 up in the 23 rd over, the 150 in the 31
st and then the 200 in the 38 th over. New Zealand born Phil Chandler
reached 50 off 60 balls and his century off 98. Chandler was first
out for 116 recording his second century of the season, Phil’s
golden start has seen him score 379 runs averaging 63.
With Chandler out at 202, Farrow accelerated before being dismissed
for 87 with 350 runs scored in the season to date. A quick 23 off
19 balls by Ray Tudor took Dulwich to a declaration of 256 for
three wickets in just 45 overs.
Old Emmanuel were left with 65 overs to make the Dulwich score
and although they scored at the required rate of four an over,
they lost wickets at regular intervals. Mark Kelly started the
rot taking three wickets in his opening spell whilst his pace partner,
Mark Kenlock was unlucky as several edges just failed to go to
hand.
After the hostile opening spell skipper Farrow turned to the
spinners with some success. Graeme Hough and Tanuj Sud both took
wickets in their first over to reduce the OE’s to 119-5.
The sixth wicket partnership took the total to 151 where upon four
wickets fell in twenty balls. The last wicket pair added twenty
runs before the Old Emmanuel innings closed at 181. Off spinner
Tanuj Sud taking the last wicket to give him 5 wickets for 26 runs
and to give Dulwich an early victory by 75 runs.
