Dulwich 1st XI vs. Sutton
Result: Dulwich Win
Sutton 147 all out (55.4 overs) lost by seven wickets to Dulwich
148-3 (37.3 overs)
Surrey Championship Division One leaders Dulwich had a convincing
win seven-wicket over third-placed Sutton to confirm their position
at the top of the table and open up a gap of 25 points over Walton-on-Thames,
now in third.
Sutton were put in to bat, and the former Surrey star Keith Medlycott
was first to fall, to Dulwich’s own ex-Surrey player, Mark
Kenlock. A typically tight spell from Kenlock, including a superb
catch off his own bowling, saw him concede just 19 runs from 11
overs. With the score at 54-2 off 20 overs, the pressure was on
Sutton to accelerate, but Graeme Hough was in fine form, picking
up two wickets in two balls to leave Sutton on 81-5 after 31 overs.
He was given excellent support by Tanuj Sud as they squeezed the
life out of their opponents. Hough finished with five for 60 in
20 overs – a superb performance from the experienced campaigner.
Mark Kelly was brought back to clean up the tail, picking up two
wickets in an over, to leave Dulwich needing just 148 to win.
Richard Farrow and Phil Chandler made sure there were no alarms.
They reached 50 in the 14 th over, and went on to make a century
opening partnership by the 27 th over. Soon after, with Farrow
having already made his fifty, Chandler drove one straight back
at Medlycott, who deflected it on to the stumps, leaving Farrow
stranded at the non-striker’s end, out for 57. Chandler went
on to make his half-century, eventually falling for 54 with the
score on 137. Jack Lusk made a brisk 24 not out at the end to see
Dulwich home by seven wickets.
Next Saturday, Dulwich entertain seventh-placed Old Emanuel at
Burbage Road in Division One of the Surrey Championship, sponsored
by Castle Lager.
Both of Dulwich’s other Surrey Championship
sides recorded winning draws to keep them in the top half of their
leagues, but the performance of the day was undoubtedly Tony Cable’s
170 in 127 balls for the 3 rd XI against the champions and league
leaders, Wimbledon.
