Dulwich 1st XI vs. Cheam
Result: Dulwich Win
Cheam 168- 8 (60 overs) drew with Dulwich 162-9 wickets
Dulwich extended their lead at the top of the Surrey Championship
Division One with a winning draw over recently relegated Cheam.
Put into bat, Cheam found scoring difficult on a slow pitch and
quickly lost an early wicket to Mark Kenlock. Tanuj Sud and Adam
Mcdonogh picked up further wickets as the Cheam score crept along
to 117 for three wickets after 44 overs. Off spinner Sud at this
point had taken one for twenty two off fourteen overs. Any thoughts
of acceleration were thwarted by Graeme Hough who started with
four maidens. A fortuitous run out saw the dismissal of Zimbabwean
John Vaughan-Davies for 36 at 142 after fifty four overs.
Cheam collapsed with four wickets falling in three overs with
Kenlock and Hough taking two each. Hough finished with 2-17 and
Kenlock with 3-31. Cheam totalled 168 after sixty overs with two
wickets still remaining.
In reply, Dulwich got off to a flying start as Richard Farrow
and Phil Chandler put on 47 in only six overs against some wayward
bowling and some wayward fielding. Chandler was dismissed for 19
off 21 balls and Farrow soon followed for 34 runs off 31 balls.
Batting became harder as Cheam intensified their efforts and the
bounce became less predictable. A hard fought stand of 42 between
Ray Tudor and Mark Kelly took the score from 76-4 to 118 with Tudor
making 35 off 48 balls. As Dulwich edged forwartd, the Cheam bowlers
took wickets regularly to reduce Dulwich to 144 for 9 with five
overs to go. Adam McDonagh and Mark Kenlock survived the remaining
overs to secure the winning draw leaving Dulwich frustratingly
six runs short.
A winning draw means that Dulwich continue to lead the league
and next week travel to newly promoted Camberley in Division One
of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle Lager.
The draw by the first team concluded a most satisfying weekend
as the other four Saturday sides each won their fixtures and on
Sunday all four Dulwich colts sides recorded four wins!
