Dulwich 1st XI vs. Farnham
Result: Dulwich Win
Farnham 196 (59.2 overs) lost to Dulwich 199-6
Dulwich achieved a thrilling four wicket victory off the penultimate ball of the game to win their top of the table clash with Farnham and take over the leadership of the Surrey Championship Division One.
Farnham playing at home chose to bat first and soon lost their first wicket to Mark Kelly off the third ball of the innings. Alan Thorpe and Matt Swarbrick took the score to 54 in the twenty second over whereupon three wickets fell for one. Tight bowling by Mark Kenlock who bowled a first spell of one wicket for twenty one runs in fifteen overs and Adam McDonagh with 1-31 off twelve overs made scoring difficult. The spinners Graeme Hough and Tanuj Sud took a wicket each to restrict the Farnham score to 120 for five wickets after 48 overs.
A late onslaught by captain Tom Hicks and Jim Crutcher saw 70 runs scored off the next ten overs before Kenlock and Kelly returned to take the last four wickets in nine balls to dismiss Farnham for 196.
In reply the left handed openers Richard Farrow and Phil Chandler took advantage of three dropped catches to put on 76 for the first wicket –the third opening stand of more than 60 in three matches. Following skipper, Farrow's dismissal for 40 and Chandler for 37, the innings was held together by Australian born keeper, Mike George with support from Jack Lusk (13 runs), Mark Kelly (26 off 25 balls) and Ray Tudor with 11. George was eventually joined by Gareth Gray and together they took the score to 195 before Gray was run out off the fourth ball of the last over. George hit the next ball for four to bring up his own fifty and see his side to their third victory in three completed matches.
Next Saturday Dulwich entertain Cheam in the fifth round of matches in the Division One of the Surrey Championship sponsored by Castle Lager.
