Dulwich 1st XI vs. Addiscombe
Addiscombe 161-9 and Dulwich 164 for 6 wickets
Dulwich secured the Surrey Championship Division Two title with
a four wicket victory at home to Addiscombe and in the process
gained their fourteenth win in seventeen matches.
Dulwich got off to a flying start as Mark Kelly took two wickets
in his first over. A wicket for Mark Kenlock and another one for
Kelly left Addiscombe reeling on 15-4 in the seventh over. Ben
Cox, making 44 and Matthew Crocombe with 35 then rebuilt their
innings with a steady partnership of 73 in twenty overs for the
fifth wicket. Crocombe was dismissed by Graeme Hough and Paul Slade
helped Cox add a further 29 before Kenlock’s return sparked
a decline. The former Surrey pace bowler picked up three wickets
to finish with 4-44 off seventeen overs and take his total for
the season to 45. Kelly had picked up one more wicket to return
4-48 off 14 overs and lift his season total to 53 wickets.
Addiscombe finished on 161 for nine wickets off 55 overs. The
ninth wicket falling in the last over to maintain Dulwich’s
record of taking at least nine wickets in every match this season!
In reply Western Australian Ty Hopes playing his last game before
going back to Perth grade cricket got the innings off to a brisk
start with 37 off 41 balls. Ty Hopes and skipper Richard Farrow
took part in an opening partnership of 63 runs in twelve overs
before Hopes’ dismissal sparked a collapse as five wickets
fell for 32 runs in thirteen overs. Four of the wickets fell to
Addiscombe captain, Dale Cooper. A fine innings of 48 not out by
Stuart Ferguson saw Dulwich to victory. Stuart was well supported
in a stand of 52 for the sixth wicket by Graeme Hough as the celebrations
began!
In a good day for the club, Dulwich’s third eleven also
clinched promotion with a comprehensive seven wicket victory over
Old Whitgiftians, while the second team maintained their promotion
challenge with a convincing 61 run victory at Addiscombe.
With two matches remaining, Dulwich visit the Metropolitan Police
next week in the Castle sponsored Surrey Championship.
