Saturday 16th August 2003
Dulwich 1st XI vs. Cranleigh

Cranleigh 151 all out and Dulwich 152 for 4 wickets

Division two leaders Dulwich, already assured of promotion maintained their push for the championship with a convincing six wicket victory away to mid table Cranleigh. The home side elected to bat first but found scoring difficult against testing bowling from Mark Kelly and Mark Kenlock. Kelly picked up the first three wickets and bowled fifteen overs unchanged for 33 runs while Kenlock bowled thirteen overs for 27 runs.

When the fist bowling change was made Cranleigh had only accumulated 60-3 off twenty seven overs. Scoring proved easier against the spinners despite a wicket for Ty Hopes. Cranleigh had reached 117-4 off 41 overs when Kenlock returned to the attack. The former Surrey quick bowler then took the last six wickets in seven overs at a personal cost of 19 runs. His figures for the innings of 6-46 took his total for the season of 41 wickets at an average of 9.5. Mark Kelly’s 3-43 took his total to 49 wickets at an average of 13. Cranleigh were dismissed for 151 off 54 overs.

In reply Dulwich lost an early wicket with Hopes being dismissed for 7 runs. Skipper Richard Farrow was then joined by Anil Mahey and together they took the score to 60 by the eighteenth over before Mahey was out for 18. Farrow was then joined by Jack Lusk and together they put on 77 for the third wicket in twenty overs. Both fell before completing the win but Farrow’s 61 was his eighth score of over 50 in sixteen innings, taking his aggregate to 665 runs. Lusk’s 42 took his total to the season to 541 at an average of 67.6.

Dulwich knocked off the runs for the loss of only four wickets and now need just one more win to secure the championship. Next week Dulwich entertain Addiscombe at home in the Castle sponsored Surrey Championship.
