Dulwich 1st XI vs. Beddington
Result: Match Drawn
Dulwich 218-6 wickets declared and Beddington 197-9
A fine bowling performance by Mark Kelly, who picked up eight wickets,
narrowly failed to bring Dulwich victory at Beddington, and they
were foced to settle for a losing draw. Despite dropping points
for the first time this season, Dulwich remained at the top of
Division 2.
Put in to bat, Dulwich scored steadily against tight bowling.
Stuart Ferguson held the innings together with a patient 60, sharing
in stands of 49 with Richard Farrow (17), 46 with Jack Lusk, who
scored 32 off 38 balls, and 48 with Mark Kelly, who went on to
score 32 off 40 balls. The stage was then set for an onslaught
by Ray Tudor, 17 off 16 balls, and Ty Hopes with 25 not out off
18 balls, as 45 runs came off the last four overs to take the score
to 218-6 off their 55 overs. Lusk's dismissal was his first for
six matches, during which time he has amassed 266 and he now has
an average of 95.
When Beddington went out to bat, Dulwich got off to the perfect
start when Kelly took a wicket with his first ball. Beddington
fought back with a second-wicket stand of 51, but three more wickets
for Kelly and one for Graeme Hough reduced them to 91-5 in the
26th over. The innings was turned around by a sixth-wicket partnership
of 88 in 15 overs by Azmat Ullah and Steve Murphy, which left Beddington
needing 40 off the last eight overs. The return of Kelly saw both
batsmen dismissed in consecutive balls, and he took two more wickets
with the score on 192 to leave the last pair to survive 15 balls
and score three runs for the winning draw. The achieved both of
these to finish on 197-9. Kelly took 8-75 off 19 overs to take
his total for the season to 22 wickets at an average of 15.
Top-of-the-table Dulwich play Camberley at home in the Castle
Lager Surrey Championship next week.
