Dulwich 1st XI vs. Old Wimbledonians

Result: Dulwich Win

Dulwich 225 for 6 wickets declared & Old Wimbledonians 166 all out

Division Two leaders, Dulwich made it four wins out of four with a tense away victory over Old Wimbledonians. The OWs had been promoted in second place with Dulwich and had inflicted the only defeat in the last season.

Put into bat, Dulwich opened with Richard Farrow and Allen Blackford, who made the most of the opposition’s fielding lapses to put on 45 in the first thirteen overs. After Blackford’s dismissal for 25, skipper Farrow stood firm as the change bowlers put a brake on the scoring rate. Farrow was joined by Jack Lusk in a third wicket partnership of 85, before the skipper was dismissed for a battling 56.

Lusk then took control to record his first championship 50 and finished with an unbeaten 82 off only 87 balls. His side totalled 225-6 off 55 overs.

Wimbledonians scored steadily in reply but lost their first three wickets to Mark Kenlock, who took 3 for 22 off 12 overs in his first spell. Spinners Ty Hopes and Graeme Hough took a wicket each to reduce the opposition to 101-5. However a partnership of 47 in 11 overs then threatened Dulwich’s supremacy. The loss of two more wickets brought an end to the chase and Wimbledonians attempted to play out time. Their efforts were thwarted by a devastating spell by Mark Kelly who returned to take the last three wickets at a cost of 2 runs in 4.3 overs. The last wicket falling with only three balls to spare.

Dulwich returned to their Burbage Road base to share a celebration with the three other teams who had also won their games. Four wins out of four!

Dulwich entertain Dorking in the Castle Surrey Championship next week.
