Wimbledon 214 all out in 56 overs beat Dulwich 104 all out (32 overs) by110 runs
Dulwich were outplayed by Wimbledon in a rain affected match and succumbed to a defeat by 110 runs.
Dulwich elected to field as the storm clouds gathered around Turney Road and had a reward in the very first over as Dave Burton removed Graham Grace for a duck. Michael Brown and Richard Pudney then pushed the score along at a rapid rate, posting 50 in the eighth over before Burton dismissed both in successive balls. Pudney had made 24 and former Hampshire opener Brown accrued 16. Wimbledon continued to score quickly as Aussie, Sam Howman and Zimbabwean Sean Davies saw up the 100 before Davies fell lbw to Burton for 20. Anthony Dalton was brought on to add spin to the attack before lunch but he could only bowl five balls before he strained a calf muscle and was out of the attack.
Dulwich skipper Mark Kelly weighed in with his first wicket as he had Dave Jarvis caught by Burton for 15 as Wimbledon reached lunch at 133-5 off 28 overs. Rain delayed the resumption for over an hour and Kelly struck again with the first ball of the second session with Howman caught behind for 34. With Dulwich seemingly on top, Wimbledon keeper Nick Oldridge shepherded the tail to a creditable 214 in a fighting innings of exactly 50 not out.
Kelly in his best bowling spell of the summer took 2-19 off 11 overs, Vikram Banerjee took two late wickets to finish with 2-59 off eighteen overs but the star performer was Dave Burton with 6-80. Geordie keeper, Ryan Birbeck had another good game behind the wickets collecting three catches.
Dulwich had forty six overs to win the game but as seemed more likely navigate the increasingly erratic bounce of the rain affected wicket. Wimbledon opening bowler, Howman swiftly had Anil Mahey lbw to the last ball of the second over and Jimmy Daley fell the same way in his next over. Richard Farrow and Dai Williams took the score to 36-2 at tea.
Immediately after the interval the Dulwich reply was torn apart as three wickets fell in nine balls. Howman had Farrow caught behind for 12, Williams fell for 13 and Mark Kelly was lbw to Bailey without scoring. Dave Burton added a quick 12 before also falling to Howman leaving young Sunny Singh to struggle valiantly as Bailey took wickets at the other end. Singh was eventually ninth out caught behind off Bailey for 13.
Arshad Iftikhar and Anthony Dalton, batting with a runner, added 21 for the last wicket until Iftikhar was run out for 15- the top score of a poor Dulwich reply. Bailey was the best bowler with 5-40 off 14 overs whilst Howman took 4-35 off 11 overs.
The loss allowed Wimbledon to draw level with Dulwich, as a number of surprise results brought six team s within six points in the Premier League of the Shepherd Neame sponsored Surrey Championship. Dulwich entertain Malden Wanderers next week as the season draws to an exciting climax.
