Saturday 1st X1 Match Reports

Saturday 6th May

Sutton 93-6 after 35.3 overs

Result: Match abandoned - Dulwich one point

A fine bowling and fielding performance put Dulwich in a strong position against newly promoted Sutton but their victory bid was thwarted by the weather and both sides had to settle for a point in an abandoned match.

Put into bat, Sutton started strongly with Keith Medleycott and Dave Sampson making 30 in the first eight overs. Dave Burton struck with the first ball of the ninth over having Sampson, the Surrey player brilliantly caught by Usman Jan at second slip. Medleycott, the former England player fell in the next over to the same combination with Usman Jan taking a slip catch off the Dulwich quickie. Dave Burton struck again with debutant keeper Ryan Birbeck catching Will Muse to leave Sutton on 60-3.

Left arm spinner Vikram Banerjee joined the attack and struck twice in his seventh over removing Gary Outram for 19 and Phil Sampson for a duck. Sutton went to lunch at 91-5 off 33 overs. The enjoyment of lunch was tempered by falling rain and the re-start was delayed by twenty minutes.

When play resumed, Banerjee struck again having Andy Sartor well caught by a diving Richard Farrow at mid off. However only a couple more overs were possible before the rain intensified and despite both teams and umpires hanging no further play was possible.

Skipper Mark Kelly was left to reflect on a fine team performance in the opening encounter but sadly only one point to take back to Dulwich.

Next week Dulwich take on last year’s champions Reigate Priory in the second round of the Shepherd Neame sponsored Surrey Championship Premier League.
