Dulwich 148 (64 overs) lost to Guildford 149-7 (46.2 overs) by 3 wickets
Dulwich fought back well after being bowled out for 148 at Guildford, and reduced their opponents to 36-5, only to be thwarted by an unbeaten 75 by Sri Lankan overseas player Carmen Mapatuna which saw Guildford to a 3-wicket victory.
Dulwich batted first in difficult conditions, but Jimmy Daley and Anil Mahey saw off the opening attack without undue difficulty, putting 30 on the board in the first 12 overs. Scoring became more difficult against Pete Young and Dean Skidmore, with only 19 coming off the next 12 overs before Daley was caught behind for 27. Only 15 runs came off the next 17 overs as two more wickets fell to leave Dulwich on 64-3 at lunch. Mahey fell to his first ball after the interval, after facing 125 balls for 18. Richard Farrow made light of the conditions, making an unbeaten 47 off 61 balls, but only Nick Brown, who made 11 in an 8th wicket partnership of 35, stayed with him for any length of time. Mapatuna was the best bowler with 3-35, while ’keeper Efren Cruz claimed three catches and a stumping. Dulwich were dismissed for 148 in 64 overs.
Dave Burton struck back immediately with a wicket in his first over, and he and Arshad Iftikhar each took two further wickets as they reduced Guildford to 36-5 after 12 overs. Mapatuna proved equal to the challenge, adding 71 for the 6th wicket with Skidmore, who made 21 before falling to Burton, and 31 for the 7th wicket with Cruz, who fell to Graeme Hough for 7. Mapatuna and skipper Tim Walter then saw their side home without further loss. Burton finished with 4-64 off 16 overs to take his total for the season to 37. Iftikhar had 2-20 off 11 overs, and Hough 1-28 off 12.
Dulwich play their last game of the season away to Normandy in the Premier League of the Shepherd Neame sponsored Surrey Championship.
