Dulwich 177-9 (66 overs) drew with Guildford 33 for 2 wickets (18 overs)
Result: Match abandoned for one point each
Dulwich recovered well from 54-5 to set a challenging target of 177 in their Surrey Championship clash with Guildford but were thwarted by the weather and had to settle for a single point for an abandoned game.
Dulwich chose to bat first but found runs hard to get against Lance Rodrigues, Chris Salmons and Andy Hollingsworth. Zoheb Sharif and Faisal Shahid had 20 on the board in eight overs before Hollingsworth and Rodrigues bowled four consecutive maidens including the wicket of Shahid for 1. Chris Thompson fell for 5, Shahid for 14 and Richard Farrow for 6 and when Carman Mapatuna dismissed Raza Ali Dar for 12 Dulwich were struggling at 54-5 in the 31st over.
Mark Kelly turned the innings around with a captain’s knock of 62 scored off 131 balls. He was well supported by Dave Burton with 12 in a stand of 33, Gareth Cornick with 5 out of 26 and Tom Savill who supported him in a stand of 35.
After Kelly’s dismissal at 148, Dulwich school teacher Savill took over finishing on 21 not out as Ed Matten with 7 and keeper Eugene Strange helped him to take the score to 177 for 9 after 66 overs. On a damp and overcast Saturday extras was the second highest scorer on 31.
Guildford found scoring no easier against the greater pace of Dave Burton and Tom Savill creeping to 21 in eleven overs. Burton had Salmons lbw for 7 and Hollingsworth fell lbw to Savill in the next over without scoring. Matapuna joined Guildford keeper, Effen Cruz to take the score to 33 off 18 overs when the drizzle became heavy enough to force the players from the field. There was to be no resumption as the rain forced an abandonment two overs short of the number required in the second innings to constitute a match.
On Saturday fifth placed Dulwich travel to seventh placed Normandy in the Shepherd Neame sponsored Surrey Championship Premier League.
