Dulwich First X1

Saturday 11th August 2007:

Dulwich 195 all out (63.5 overs) lost to Wimbledon 196 for 2 wickets (34.2 overs) by eight wickets

Dulwich managed to reach a competitive score of 195 on a difficult pitch but were thoroughly outplayed by Wimbledon who raced to their target for the loss of only two wickets in 34 overs.

Dulwich chose to bat but found conditions difficult losing three wickets before lunch all to balls which kept low. Zoheb Sharif, lbw for 8, Chris Thompson bowled for 12and Raza Dar lbw for 11 all fell to the low bounce as Dulwich succumbed to 45-3 in the seventeenth over. Phil Chandler and Richard Farrow consolidated to take the score to 91-3 of 29 overs by lunch.

Chandler fell soon after the interval for 41 also lbw to a shooter and Farrow was out at 125 when he was caught by the slip for 40. Dave Burton, Tom Howe and Stuart Ferguson went quickly as the score declined to 158 -8 in the 55th over. Skipper Mark Kelly was then joined by Gareth Cornick and together they added 35 for the ninth wicket. Cornick was eventually caught for 12 and two runs later Kelly was last out for 46 with the score on 195.

Left arm spinner Will Moolman took 3-34 off 13 overs and former Northants player Jonathan Wileman took two wickets in his last over to finish with 3-40 off 14.5 overs.

In reply Wimbledon made light of the target as the pitch eased and the Dulwich bowlers failed to take advantage of the helpful conditions. Keeper Dave Jarvis was first out for 11 with the score on 43, lbw to the leg spin of Sharif. His dismissal only brought in New Zealander, Richard Pudney who hit 79 off 73 balls with seven fours and five sixes in a stand of 129 in only 20 overs for the second wicket. Graham Grace with 83 not out off 103 balls and Steve Hobson 13 not out off 12 balls then saw Wimbledon home to a comfortable victory by eight wickets.

Dulwich remain at the foot of the table as they travel to fellow strugglers Weybridge next Saturday in a vital game at the bottom of the Shepherd Neame sponsored Surrey Championship Premier League.
