Farnham (256 all out in 64.1 overs) beat Dulwich (134 in 55.3 overs) by 122 runs
Undisciplined bowling and an abject batting performance saw Dulwich being thoroughly outplayed in their Premier Division game at Farnham to lose convincingly by 122 runs.
Dulwich got off to a good start with Dave Burton striking in the first over but positive batting by Farnham’s Tom Caines and an assortment of wides and no balls saw the home team score rise to 34 after six overs. Burton struck again to remove Will Faulkner for 3 and new boy Australian Paul Towner dismissed Guy Hicks to make Farnham 36-3. Runs and extras continued to flow with the quickies conceding 80 by the 17th over of which 24 were wides or no balls.
The Dulwich spinners brought some control but Caines and Gary Clapham looked well set taking their fourth wicket partnership to 131 before Vikram Banerjee bowled Caines for 60 and the Cambridge blue followed four overs later to dismiss Clapham for 81. A stand of 49 by skipper Tom Hicks and Richie Norman took Farnham to 232 before Banerjee bowled Hicks for 3 and then cleaned up the tail to finish with 6-76 off 25 overs.
Dulwich made a positive start as Steve Hale took advantage of some wayward bowling to put 20 on the board off three overs! The Farnham opening attack adjusted their line and runs were reduced to a trickle with 14 coming off the next 18 overs for the loss of four wickets. Hale went for 22 as Sunny Singh battled alone as wickets fell at the other end. Youngster Singh was the eight out at 87 having contributed 32. Paul Towner provided a brief counter-attack with a quick fire 20 before becoming the second Dulwich man run out. The last wicket pair of Banerjee and keeper Ryan Birbeck were left the impossible task of surviving for 81 minutes or a minimum of 21 overs. They survived for half that time looking in some comfort compared to their colleagues. However with nine overs still to come, Banerjee was the last wicket to fall at 134.
After such a promising start, it was poor result and next week seventh placed Dulwich entertain Farnham’s neighbours Normandy at home in the Shepherd Neame sponsored Surrey Championship.
