Weybridge (282-6 declared (61 overs) in a match abandoned with Dulwich 18 for1 wicket (6.2 overs)
Dulwich conceded a challenging total of 282 in their Surrey Championship Premier Division clash at Weybridge, but rain curtailed their reply in the 7th over and the match was abandoned.
Put in to bat, skipper Gavin Franklin and Charlie Hodgson withstood the efforts of 6 bowlers to take the score to 140-0 off 36 overs at lunch. Hodgson was particularly severe on Dave Burton, taking advantage of attacking fields to hit 4 fours in an over. He reached his 50 off only 58 balls with 10 fours. Arshad Iftikhar was the pick of the attack, conceding only 18 runs off 10 overs and being unlucky not to take a wicket. Mark Kelly, Zoheb Sharif, Raza Ali Dar and Richard Beeching all bowled steadily but were unable to break through. The opening stand had progressed to 182 in the 47th over when Burton returned to bowl Franklin for 69. Hodgson had just reached his century, and was joined by 17 year old Serin Waters, who hit 15 off 16 balls. They added 45 for the second wicket before Waters was run out by Ed Matten as both batsmen found themselves at the same end. Aki Ansari was lbw to Sharif for 1, and Hodgson was finally dismissed by a direct hit by Dar with the score on 260. His 143 had come off 171 balls, and remarkably had contained only 3 further fours plus 2 sixes after he had reached 50. Keeper Abeed Janmohamed hit a quick 32 off 24 balls before Dar snapped up two wickets in an over to hasten a declaration with the score on 282-6 after 61 overs.
Dulwich were left 59 overs to get the runs, but got off to a bad start when Steve Hale was bowled by Shaun Fleet for 2 in the third over. Sharif was joined by Dar, who was quickly into his stride. He had reached 13 off 18 balls when rain brought a premature end to proceedings with the score on 18-1 after 6.2 overs.
This was Dulwich's 4th match to be abandoned this season and leaves them at the foot of the table. However there are still only six points separating the bottom four teams, so there is still all to play for.
Next week Dulwich entertain defending champions Sutton in the Shepherd Neame sponsored Surrey Championship Premier League.
