Dulwich 154 all out (46.1 overs) lost to Sunbury 155-3(29.4 overs) by seven wickets
A fine innings of 80 off 104 balls by Raza Ali Dar, which comprised more than half his side’s score, saw Dulwich to a total of 154 all out in their rain-affected match at Sunbury, but the home side had no difficulty in knocking off the runs with 2.2 overs to spare.
Put in to bat on a wet wicket, Dulwich found scoring difficult against tight bowling and lost both openers by the time the score reached 13, in the 10th over. Dar joined Chris Thompson in a stand of 30 before Thompson fell for 17. Dar and acting skipper Richard Farrow had taken the score to 65 after 23 overs when rain forced the players from the field for the second time. Although the pitch was covered the rest of the square was saturated, and play did not resume until 4.05pm, with the Dulwich innings reduced to 47 overs. Farrow fell soon after the resumption, but Dar and Tom Savill then doubled the score, adding 67 in 13.4 overs. Savill’s dismissal for 17 at 134 sparked a collapse in which the last six wickets fell for 20 runs in 5.3 overs. Off-spinner Matthew Todd took five of those wickets for 10 runs in 15 balls, to finish with 6-39 off 14.1 overs. ‘Keeper Joel Pape claimed 3 stumpings to add to his two earlier catches.
Sunbury had 32 overs to get the runs, and got off to a flying start as Neil Farnsworth went for his shots from the outset against some wayward bowling, well supported by Max Hall, to post 41 off the first five overs. Dar dismissed Farnsworth for 50 off 46 balls, after Bobby Iftikhar and Richard Beeching imposed some control, conceding only 10 runs off 6 overs. Iftikhar dismissed Hall for 35 at which point Sunbury needed 51 off 10 overs. Luke Woodcock and Adam London then regained the initiative, adding 49 in eight overs before London was bowled by Iftikhar for 28, off 24 balls. Woodcock finished on 26 not out to see his side home with 2.2 overs to spare.
Although Dulwich had had the worst of the conditions, on the day they had been thoroughly outplayed by a side who had bowled much more accurately and batted consistently down the order.
Next week Dulwich entertain Weybridge at home in the Shepherd Neame sponsored Surrey Championship Premier League.
