Dulwich Colts match reports for 2008
DCPS Under 10s v Dulwich Cricket Club Under 10s: a friendly on 25 April 2008
DCPS Under 10s: 80 for 8
Dulwich Under 10s: 72 for 5
Result: Match drawn
Dulwich CC Team: Alfie Miller (Captain), Freddie Chatfield, Michael Slade, Karim Marcelle, Mattie Stone, Ben Lloyd-Jones, Waheeb Hussiani, Sameer Saleem, Louis Duncan, Alfie Sealy, Ben Swanson
A new look Dulwich team produced a good performance to earn a creditable draw against a strong DCPS team in the opening game of the season. The Dulwich team finished just 9 runs short of victory, having dominated much of the game.
Alfie Miller captained a team with mixed experience. Michael Slade made his debut for Dulwich and, playing along side some more experienced players, Ben Swanson, Louis Duncan and Ben Lloyd-Jones were all selected at this level for the first time. Karim Marcelle and Sameer Saleem were also selected as under age players.
Dulwich won the toss and put DCPS into bat. Michael Slade and Mattie Stone shared wicket-keeping responsibilities.
Tight bowling by Alfie Miller and Waheeb Hussaini limited scoring opportunities for the DCPS opening pair. Freddie Chatfield then bowled both opening batsman in a fine opening spell, with excellent support from Sameer Saleem, who also took two wickets.
Karim Marcelle, Alfie Sealy and Ben Swanson, with the help of a fine low catch by Alfie Miller at mid-off, then took further wickets to restrict any DCPS recovery. In the final over of the innings, Freddie Chatfield returned and took an outstanding catch off his own bowling to dismiss the DCPS dangerman.
DCPS finished on a respectable 80/8 but the game was there to be won.
Dulwich opened their innings with Freddie Chatfield and Michael Slade. After a solid start, Michael Slade was unluckily run out: 16/1. Chatfield and Karim Marcelle then put on 25 and at the half way point Dulwich were on 39/1.
DCPS responded strongly and, after Chatfield was run out for 21, Dulwich lost important mid-order wickets, principally to a fine spell of swing bowling by Catermull.
The run rate gradually increased and Dulwich ran short of time. Karim Marcelle (20 not out) responded with some lusty blows late in the innings but Dulwich fell just 9 runs short of the victory target on 72/5.
Overall it was a good effort by Dulwich, ably captained by Alfie Miller. DCPS will be one of the strongest teams that the Under 10s face this summer so there is now a strong belief that the Under 10s have a strong squad and are capable of doing well this season.
Congratulations to all of the players who played in this game.
Dulwich CC Player of the Match: Freddie Chatfield, for a fine all round performance.

Dulwich CC Colts - Match Reports for the under 15 X1 in 2007
10 June v Spencer (League)
Won by 36 runs
Dulwich 192 for 3, Spencer 156-7
Going into yesterday’s game at Spencer, both sides were undefeated and sharing first place at the top of the first division of the U15 league in Surrey.
Dulwich won the toss and batted first and posted a daunting target of 192 for 3 off their 24 overs. The star of the show was undoubtedly Will McVicar who opened the batting and scored 119 not out, easily the best score by a colt in the U15’s cricket for some considerable time. The other four players who batted all supported Will and kept the run rate moving, particularly Billy Barren who hit the biggest six I’ve seen for a long time and ended up with 28 not out.
In the field, Dulwich set a relatively defensive field from the beginning, allowing Spencer 4 or 5 runs an over and in truth with disciplined bowling and fielding resulting in 4 run outs including good shies at the stumps from run saving positions by Sam Northcote-Green and Tarun Mahey, Dulwich were never threatened. Spencer ended up scoring 156 for 7 with Dulwich winning by 36 runs.
That puts Dulwich one win clear of the top of the table with 4 matches to go. We have a tough match next weekend at home against Reigate who lost off the last ball of the match against Spencer the week before last and are lying second in the league. We then finish our season with a home match against Cheam, a tough away fixture against Old Whitgiftians and finally a home match against Addiscombe.
20 May v Sutton (League)
Won by 162 runs
Dulwich 221 for 4, Sutton 59 all out
On our first home game of the season Dulwich put on one of the best batting displays the league has ever seen scoring 221 for 4 off 24 overs. Almost everybody who batted contributed in a very positive way. Tancred Lucy opened with 30, Sam Northcote Green added 41, Laurie Davidson 39 and Billy Barren top scored with 67 not out. It is also worth noting that our new player Mustafa Kamal, freshly arrived from Pakistan having been told that there were only 2 ½ overs to go so he needed to give it a bit of biff, hit his first ball for 6, his second ball for 4 and ended up scoring 27 not out including 3 sixes!
We then turned in an incredibly professional performance keeping concentration whilst being well ahead and bowled Sutton out in 19 overs for 59. Charlie Bottomley starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets.
We are unbeaten in three games, are in the Cup quarter final and are on top of the League. It all gets a lot more serious in the next week or so as we face Wimbledon away and Old Whitgiftians at home in the Cup. 13 May v Beddington (Cup)
Won by 86 runs
Dulwich 136-3, Beddington 50-5
Away to Beddington in the Cup in the rain! On a day when very few people played any cricket at all, Beddington sportingly agreed to attempt a 10 over a side thrash. Dulwich won the toss and elected to bat and put on an incredible batting display. Sam Northcote-Green and Billy Barren opened putting on 80 for the opening partnership in 6 overs! Sam hit 78 off 27 balls and Billy hit 30 off 20 balls. Dulwich ended up scoring 136 for 3 and then with a very disciplined bowling display reduced Beddington to 50 for 5 off their 10 overs.
6 May v Purley (League)
Won by 59 runs
Dulwich 170 for 5, Purley 111 all out
The opening league game of the season away at Purley saw a very sound batting performance by Dulwich scoring 170 for 5 off their 24 overs, spearheaded by Will McVicar who opened the batting and scored 79. Fine contributions from everyone through the batting order including a solid 19 from Tarun Mahey and a good 6 wickets partnership of 40 from Andrew Corbin and James Gallagher-Powell in 4 overs with James scoring 24 not out. In reply, the bowling was very disciplined with everybody contributing and ending up with Purley being ran out of the last ball of their 24 overs for 111.
