Welcome to Majeed Jehangir

Dulwich’s Overseas Professional

Majeed Jehangir has been recruited by Dulwich CC as Overseas player and coach.  Over the winter the recruitment team put in a lot of hard work and we are delighted that Majeed agreed to join us and has managed to get to London in time to make his debut last week against Old Emanuel.

Majeed is 31 and from Sialkot in the Punjab region of Pakistan.  He has played 84 first class games since his debut in the 1998/9 season and has over 4000 runs at an average slightly over 30.  Five hundred and nineteen Fifties say he is an accomplished batsmen at a high level of cricket.  He also bowls having taken 30 first class wickets although cricinfo currently has him as a leg spinner and in the past has even had him down as a left arm bowler (Majeed assures me he had to get them to correct this!).  A fine playing record and we are sure that he will add strength to our team at number three in the order and with the ball.

Over the last ten years he has played for Keswick, Furness and Millom in the North Lancashire and Cumbria League and has consistently scored between 650 and 900 runs a season at high averages and picked up lots of wickets.  His previous clubs tell us we have a fine player and a great person and first impressions of all who have met him have been really good.  Raza Dar who was our overseas for a couple of years two years ago also speaks highly of him having played against him in Pakistan.

Majeed is also a UKCC Level 2 coach and will be a key part of our coaching programme this summer.  Already children and parents are commenting on the professional way he goes about his coaching.

Marshall Hood was a big success last year but I am sure that Majeed has the class and the character to step into Marshall’s big shoes and make a difference to Dulwich Cricket Club – Can I ask that you all seek out Majeed and make him welcome.
