DULWICH 129 lost to WALTON ON THAMES 132-1 by 9 wickets

Dulwich were thoroughly outplayed by leaders Walton on Thames to lose their Ryman Surrey Championship Division 2 match by 9 wickets.

Dulwich won the toss for the 11th time in 11 matches, and uncharacteristically chose to bat first. This did not produce a reversal in fortunes however as John Morris, skipper Michael Currey and Gareth Cornick all went cheaply in the first nine overs. Andrew Cornick joined Stuart Ferguson with the score on 18-3, and together they put on 32 for the fourth wicket in 13.3 overs before Cornick was bowled for 11. The scoring rate now stagnated as only five runs came off the next twelve overs while losing the wickets of Ferguson, whose obdurate 23 had taken 81 balls, and Matt Balch, who scored just a single off 21 balls. Naeem Iqbal launched a counter attack, and was supported by Sam Tennant in a stand of 40 in 15 overs for the seventh wicket. Both fell with the score on 92, Tennant making a dogged 9 off 47 balls while Iqbal faced 50 balls for his enterprising 31. A late cameo from Jon Lodwick, with 25 off 21 balls, helped lift the score to 129. The wickets were shared among the Walton bowlers, who all bowled tidily, none more so than Jack Dominy, whose first six overs were all maidens and who at one point had taken 2-1 off eight overs.

Dulwich needed an early breakthrough, but were unable to obtain one as openers Paul Bainbridge and Alex Pindar put on 52 for the first wicket in 15.3 overs before the latter fell to Salaar Waqar for 29. The second wicket pair then knocked off the runs, with Bainbridge finishing on 57 off 88 balls, and OP Anthony Alleyne smashing 44 off just 37 balls, with all but four of his runs coming in boundaries.

Dulwich failed to take a single point from this encounter and slip to ninth, one point behind Cheam whose winning draw at bottom club Ashford lifts them to eighth. Dulwich and Cheam will therefore both be desperate for a victory to take them out of the relegation zone when they meet each other next week at Dulwich.
