Sat 23rd May – 1st XI v Walton-on-Thames

DULWICH 134 (47.5) lost to WALTON-ON-THAMES 135-4 (26.1) by 6 wickets

Dulwich were unable to build on their previous week’s victory when they slipped to a six-wicket defeat at Walton-on-Thames in their Ryman Surrey Championship Division 2 fixture last Saturday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first in this 50-overs encounter, Dulwich got off to a flyer. They were 30-0 after just six overs, thanks mainly to a flurry of boundaries from Tom Savill. But then they began to lose wickets at regular intervals, including Savill for 24, and slumped to 76-7. Stuart Ferguson steadied the innings with a watchful 36 from 101 balls, but only Mark Rose (11) and Alex Gledhill (14) of the middle and lower order managed double figures and Dulwich were eventually dismissed for 134 in the 48th over. Most of the Walton bowlers exercised great control, particularly slow left-armer Mark Bainbridge who took 3-19 off 9.5 overs.

In reply, Walton got off to a bad start when one of their openers was run out in the first over, but thereafter they made good progress towards their target, thanks mainly to third-wicket pair Matt Haddow (32) and overseas player Addy Allayne who struck a classy 58. Spinner Salaar Waqar was the most successful of the Dulwich bowlers with 2-29.

Dulwich are on the road again this Saturday (30 May) when they visit Cheam.
