Sat 7th Sep – 1st XI v Farnham

FARNHAM 131 (42.1) lost to DULWICH 132-3 (30) by 7 wickets

Scorecard

Dulwich ended a disappointing season in Division 1 of the Ryman Surrey Championship with a convincing victory over Farnham, who had also been the victims of their only previous win.

Dulwich put their opponents in to bat, and saw the openers proceed untroubled to 26 in the ninth over when the introduction of James Bridgland into the attack brought the first wicket. Two wickets for Naeem Iqbal in the tenth over, followed by another wicket for Iqbal in the twelfth and one for Bridgland in the thirteenth, saw Farnham lose five wickets in 25 balls to collapse to 39-5. The sixth wicket pair led a brief recovery, adding 38 in ten overs, whereupon Levi Olver struck to make it 77-6. Olver and Alex Gledhill now imposed a stranglehold, conceding only five runs off the next eight overs. Gledhill picked up the next wicket and finished his ten overs with 1-21 (9 of which had come off his first over!), while Olver picked up two more wickets to finish with 3-16 off his ten. With the two left-arm spinners bowled out Rob Procter made merry against their replacements, dominating stands of 21 and 24 for the last two wickets, which raised the Farnham total to 131.

In reply Dulwich cruised confidently to their target for the loss of only three wickets.  Anil Mahey once again led the way, as he had done all season, scoring 43 to finish with an aggregate of 463 and an average of 27.24. He was given good support by Jonathan Lewis, who scored 28 in a stand of 68 for the first wicket in 16.1 overs, and Gareth Cornick, who joined him in a stand of 32 for the second wicket in just 5.4 overs, and went on to finish on 28 not out. Ben Rosser with 12 helped Cornick take the score to 130 before falling with just two needed for victory.

Despite their win Dulwich still finished in bottom place, and they will now be looking to regroup during the winter with the aim of producing a much better performance next year in Division 2.
