Sat 31st Aug – 1st XI v Valley End
DULWICH 121 (39) lost to VALLEY END 122-2 (17.4) by 8 wickets
After the highs of last week’s match, when Dulwich posted their highest score of the season, it was back to normal this week as yet another batting collapse led to an eight wicket defeat in their Ryman Surrey Championship Division 1 match at home to Valley End.
Dulwich chose to bat, and shrugged off the loss of two early wickets as Anil Mahey, with 30, and Stuart Ferguson, 12, added 39 for the third wicket to take the score to 51-2 after 16 overs. A wicket in each of the next four overs reduced them to 56-6 after 20, and another wicket soon followed to make it 68-7. A solid 18 from Levi Olver and an enterprising 32 by Naeem Iqbal enabled the last three wickets to add 53, but Dulwich were dismissed for 121 off the last ball of the 39th over. These four batsmen were the only ones to make double figures, with no one else managing to score more than 4.
The Valley End openers got off to a flying start, adding 48 for the first wicket in just 6.5 overs. Both fell in successive overs, with Alex MacQueen being caught off Alex Gledhill for 20, and Paul Williams run out by Olver for 25. Hopes of a further breakthrough were thwarted by Darren Redwood and Chris MacDougal, who each scored an unbeaten 30 as Valley End cruised to their target with 32.2 overs to spare.
Next week Dulwich have their final match of a wretched season, at home to Farnham.
