DULWICH 76 (31.2) v NORMANDY – MATCH ABANDONED
On a miserable day punctuated by frequent squally showers Dulwich were bowled out for 76 in their Ryman Surrey Championship Division 1 match against Normandy, but the rain had the final say and the match had to be abandoned.
Dulwich chose to bat, but got off to a wretched start when Anil Mahey was well caught by Matt Carter off Dan Miles for a single in the second over. Carter followed this up by taking the next three wickets, removing Ed Carlton for 1, Frankie Brown for 7 and Ed Savill for 3 as Dulwich declined to 16-4 after 10.3 overs. James Balmforth and Jonathan Lewis resisted for 4.4 overs, adding 13 for the fifth wicket before some kamikaze running, which had been a feature throughout the innings, had the inevitable result as Lewis was run out for 11. Skipper Tom Savill (5), Ben Rosser (1) and Tom Fox (1) fell in successive overs to the spinners, to reduce Dulwich to 40-8 in the 21st over. Balmforth and Levi Olver then batted sensibly and positively to add 34 in nine overs in a ninth wicket partnership interspersed by three rain breaks, but the return of Miles proved decisive as he removed Balmforth for 18 and Olver for 17. Dulwich were all out for 76 in the 32nd over.
Rain was again falling as the innings ended, and this time the ends of the used pitches were left saturated. Valiant attempts to mop up the water proved futile, and the match was eventually abandoned at 7 pm.
Dulwich thus picked up a rare point, but are still without a win after six matches. Next week they have a crucial clash at home to fellow strugglers Camberley.
